Cushion foundations tend to be more on the expensive side because it comes with a case and refillable cartridges of product. My cushion came with the cushion foundation as well as a refill for approximately $40. I have also heard that cushion foundation refills from other brands fit inside the Hera case. So for example the Laneige BB Cushion refill should fit inside this Hera UV Mist case. Each refill comes with 15g of product.
The packaging is really gorgeous and is the major reason why I wanted this product. The packaging wasn't as sturdy as I thought it was going to be. I thought the packaging was going to be metal because of the metallic look but it is actually made of plastic. I guess this does make it a lot lighter and easier to take around in your bag, but it was slightly disappointing at first. Nonetheless, I still love the packaging and how sleek it looks.
I got mine in the shade C23 which stands for Cover 23. Hera has multiple versions of their cushion foundations. They have N21,23 which gives a sheerer, natural look and C21,23 which give more coverage.
As I mentioned before, I got the shade C23 which is the darker of the two shades. Even though it's the darkest color it was still a shade lighter than my skin tone. I would say that I have a light/medium complexion so if you are more on the medium/dark side this product may be too light for you. I also wouldn't recommend getting C21 unless you are very, very pale or just like that very whitened look.
Even though this is the "C" line, this cushion doesn't give a full coverage finish. I would say it gives a medium finish at most but when you build up the product it can get a little cakey looking. It evens out my skin tone nicely but if you have really bad under eye circles or acne scarring you might need an additional concealer.
I didn't mention this before but cushion foundations come with a special air puff that actually works very well and blends the product very nicely. One con though is that the puff is hard to clean.
In the photos below I put some eyeliner and lip stain on my hand to test the coverage. You can see that after I applied the cushion over the eyeliner, it is not as noticeable but you can still see both marks. This is why the product doesn't have full coverage. If you have redness in your skin the cushion foundation will work nicely to cancel out the redness and make it look like a natural flush.
As I mentioned before, I have very oily skin, especially in the summertime. I don't notice the product moving too much on my face and wears nicely throughout the day without using a setting powder. My face does become oily by the end of the day but that happens no matter what product I use. If the oil bothers you though you could always use a blotting sheet or powder.
I will say that this product isn't sweat proof or waterproof. If you are living somewhere where the weather is really humid then I suggest using a setting powder.
- just the right amount of coverage I was looking for
- SPF 50+, PA+++
- nice packaging, decent sized mirror
- easy to touch up throughout the day if needed
- blends easily
- matte finish
- nice subtle scent
Cons:
- a little too light for my skin
- can get cakey if apply too much
- expensive
- not sweat proof like it claims
- air puff is hard to clean
This is a nice product but it's the first cushion foundation I've tried, so I don't have any others to compare it to. I don't think I'll be repurchasing because for $40 it wasn't the best product. I still prefer using other products like the Tonymoly CC cream or my Skin79 bb cream. If you have been wanting to try this cushion foundation though I would say that it is a good cushion foundation but there are plenty of other ones out there for a cheaper price. For example, Etude House and Innisfree have cushion foundations for slightly cheaper.
Although I was disappointed with the product, I will still get a lot of use out of it because even when I finish the foundation I will continue to use the case. I'm happy that other brand's refills will fit inside the case so I can just buy refills in the future.
